EMILY DAVISON
(she/her/hers)
meet
I’m a Registered Social Worker and the founder of Whole Sum Wellness. I offer psychotherapy and counselling to individuals aged 7 years and older. My practice focuses on working with people experiencing anxiety, grief, trauma, attachment-based or relationships concerns, and life transitions. I also support people navigating challenges related to identity and sexuality. I’m particularly passionate about working with young adults, highly sensitive people, and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
My approach is to listen like a trusted friend and offer the insights of a trained professional, with warmth, curiosity, empathy, compassion, and humor. We’ll invest time and energy into creating a space where you can feel brave enough to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We’ll also collaborate meaningfully as we deepen your understanding of yourself, process your experiences, practice adaptive coping strategies, and learn how to access your inner wisdom.
I'm here for you

OUR STORY
we support the Whole Sum of your Wellness
Whole Sum Wellness was founded in the fall of 2023 by Emily Davison. After a decade working in healthcare, social services, and research, she recognized there was more to mental health than presenting symptoms. Inspired by the Indigenous Wholistic Theory (Absolon King, 2010) and the biopsychosocial-structural-spiritual approach to health, Emily wanted to develop a practice that attended to different aspects of peoples’ mental health and wellbeing.
As a Registered Social Worker, Emily currently works as a solo practitioner supporting individuals with counselling and psychotherapy to address concerns related to anxiety, grief, trauma, identity, sexuality, interpersonal relationships, and life transitions. Emily is dedicated to ongoing professional development to enhance her understanding of mental health and her practice. She is also interested in finding new ways to address the evolving needs of community members. In the future, Emily hopes to expand Whole Sum Wellness by developing an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Your thoughts and feelings are valid.
When you're ready,
we can explore them together.

PHILOSOPHY
our approach is collaborative, not clinical
whole sum
Whole Sum Wellness is rooted in inclusivity, compassion, connection, and empathy. Humanity is at the core of our work. Mental health is often conceptualized and treated as an individual problem (or an individual’s problem), meanwhile we recognize physical, psychological, social, structural, and spiritual factors impact wellbeing.
We use a trauma-informed, person-centered, and collaborative approach so your values, priorities, and strengths are recognized, validated, and integrated into the therapeutic process. We’ll work to find the unique blend of modalities that’s right for you. These may include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Parts Work, Emotionally-Focused, DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)… or something completely different.
Let’s map your wellness journey together!

POLICIES
At Whole Sum Wellness, we are committed to creating an inclusive, compassionate, and respectful therapeutic environment. Below are some key policies to help guide our relationship with you and ensure clarity regarding our professional care.
We do not provide crisis, emergency, or walk-in services. If you are in danger or are experiencing an emergency, please dial 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency room.
If you are in need of urgent mental health support or need someone to talk to, please contact:
Kids Help Phone - Call: 1-800-668-6868 or Text: 6868684
Youth Service Bureau - Call: 613-260-2360 or chat: https://www.ysb.ca/
Ottawa Crisis Line - Call: 613-722-6914
Suicide Crisis Hotline - call or text 9-8-8
Sessions are typically 50 minutes long. However, this can be shortened or lengthened based on your needs and the nature of the session. For example, some people ask for a 30 minute session to check-in between monthly sessions or to address a single issue. However, an 80 minute session may be more appropriate for deeper processing and reflection, or for meetings between a child, her/his/their parent(s), and the therapist.
15-minute check-in or meeting = $65.00
30-minute session or meeting = $100.00
50-minute session or meeting = $175.00
80-minute session or meeting = $205.00
80-minute Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) session = $175.00
Letters of Support & Other Documentation = Fees Available Upon Request.
Payment is accepted via credit card or cash. You will be expected to document your credit card information on your Jane account prior to the first session, however exceptions can be made if this is not available. Payment is due at the time of the session.
Invoices are provided via Jane (in Receipts section of your account) and can be used for insurance or tax purposes.
After you have confirmed with your therapist that you will begin working together, your therapist will create a Whole Sum Wellness profile for you on Jane. Your therapist will also book several sessions in advance to complete the intake process and maintain consistency in your progress. This method helps you and your therapist build a strong rapport and collaborate to build a personalized plan to meet your goals.
You can book future follow-up sessions on Jane using the “Book an Appointment” button on the upper right-hand corner or the bottom left-hand corner of your profile.
You can also coordinate the dates and times of follow up sessions by contacting your therapist by email. If you have difficulties navigating Jane, please contact us to book follow up sessions.
We require 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed appointments or late cancellations will be subject to the full session fee, including in cases of emergency or illness.
You can cancel or reschedule sessions directly using your Jane account or by emailing your therapist. If you have difficulties navigating Jane, please contact us to book follow up sessions.
Your privacy is extremely important. All sessions and client information are confidential. Sessions cannot be recorded unless both the service provider and client are aware and consent to the recording.
Physical clinical notes are stored in a filing cabinet with lock and key. Electronic Records are stored in Jane, our practice management software, which is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) compliant.
Exceptions to confidentiality include: when there is 1) risk of harm to self or others; 2) suspected abuse or neglect of one or multiple children; 3) abuse, exploitation, or malpractice is being perpetrated by a registered professional; 4) if your therapist is required by a court order to discuss your case; or 5) the governing body of your therapist audits his/her/their notes for an ethical review.

ACCESSIBILITY
making mental health more accessible
At Whole Sum Wellness, we are interested in creating a space where individuals regardless of ability, can access and benefit from our mental health services.
You can submit feedback regarding accessibility through the contact page or directly to emily@wholesomewellness.ca. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days, and to propose alternatives or solutions within 10 business days.
At Whole Sum Wellness, we are interested in creating a space where individuals, regardless of ability, can access and benefit from our mental health services. Our building, located at 2039 Robertson Road, includes:
-
Reserved parking spaces for individuals with disabilities; all parking at the building is free
-
The building maintenance team and external contractors clear snow and debris from the parking lot and entry ways
-
Wheelchair accessible entrances at the front and back of the building
-
Signage on the main floor at the front and back entrances for ease of navigation
-
Elevator access
-
Office door entry for Suite 255 is 34.5 inches wide
-
An accessible bathroom outside of Suite 262 (Our office is Suite 255)
-
Mobility, Psychiatric, Guide, Hearing, Diabetic Alert, Allergy Detection, Seizure Alert, and Autism Service Dogs are allowed in the building in accordance to Bill 80, the Ontario Service Dogs Act, 2016
We strive to communicate in ways that are clear and accessible to our clients. Current services and accommodations include:
-
Large-print forms or materials upon request
-
The option to bring a support person or advocate to sessions (please notify your therapist if this is of interest to you)
-
Clear masks available for clients who rely on lip-reading
-
Please note, we do not have braille signage at this time
-
To further increase accessibility, we offer secure virtual sessions using Jane (a practice management software). You can access Jane from your home using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Phone sessions would require a smartphone, cellphone, or landline. If you need support accessing or using our virtual or phone platforms, we’re here to help.
We are actively working to ensure our website is accessible to individuals with disabilities. If you experience any barriers using our site, please contact us so we can address the issue promptly.
Despite our best efforts to create an accessible space, we recognize there are some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.
-
Physical Accessibility: Building maintenance and external contractors may be delayed in clearing of the snow and debris from the parking lot and entry ways to the building during bad weather. Alternatives: If there is bad weather, clients can contact their mental health practitioner to change their session to virtual or phone. Practitioners can also contact the landlord/building manager if there are concerns about snow/ice removal or issues with the sidewalks and entrance ways.
-
Communication Accessibility: Current signage in the building is limited to written English with no translations or Braille characters. Emily Davison only provides services in English (written and spoken). There are currently no other therapists at Whole Sum Wellness who offer services in other spoken languages or ASL. Alternatives: Emily has contacted the building manager to inquire about Braille signage and raised tactile maps of the building. At this time, we can offer large print and high contrast options for intake forms and printed documents. We can also provide clients with an audio recording of directions to get into the office or arrange a time for you to visit prior to your session so you can tour the space with a staff member or trusted other.
-
Virtual and Phone Options: If there are ever issues with internet connection and virtual sessions become disrupted, your therapist will call you by phone to complete the remainder of the session.
-
Website Accessibility: Uploaded images may not have text alternatives because we cannot ensure the quality of contributions. Archived documents might not work with current assistive technologies because they use outdated technologies that do not support accessibility. We will do our best to convert documents to new formats within 7 business following a request.
